We used a range of primary research to get more of an idea towards what to include within the storyboard plan. This would include communicating as a group towards clothes we all own to use as costumes we think would be most suitable for the different scenes. Working together as a team, we would then send each other pictures as possible costume ideas from our wardrobe selection and make a decision as a group towards what would be most effective and how it would represent the artist of her persona through the fashion of her clothes. This enabled us as a group to become effective towards organising iconography and costume elements for our music video. Secondary research was conducted to get more knowledge towards storyboards, looking at successful ones to get more of an idea towards what needs to involved in order to get full information and closure essential to succeed in planning a storyboard. This type of research was found through the use of the internet. We shared a role of responsibilities as a group to plan this storyboard. We decided to make a team effort to engage all of our ideas into one as we thought that would be most efficient rather than setting roles and making one member of the group put in only their ideas. I would include quick stiches of each fraction of how we plan the scene to go as I participate in A level art.
Our team effort would include what scenario of a particular narrative to include in a certain fragment and why. An example of this is the very first fraction, which is going to be the bedroom scene where she is performing to the character. The location is going to be a bedroom, using a mid shot to show the artist sitting in her bed, under her covers. We thought this would be effective as it is starting up the music video showing links with the song, as the title of the song is 'In My Bed.' This also immediately shows the audience how she wishes to present herself, which is very scruffy and care free, shown through messy, un-brushed hair, left over makeup from the night before and lack of motivation, which is shown through her being lazy in bed. We completed all of our storyboards by having our analysed lyrics sheet in front of us, which showed where we had already planned to put what particular scene in which bit of the song. We then used this as a base which then allowed us to go into more depth towards a particular scene and add more towards what we wish to include, the description of the fraction and how we are going to complete it. This was extremely successful and I am excited to see the outcome of our music video which was benefitted from all of this efficient types of planning. Most of our inspiration came from the artists song we are using, Amy Winehouse. She has a very altmerative look and persona about her which makes her interesting and refreshing. Her and our hypothetical artist are quite similar so we watched more and researched more of Amy's videos to get more of an idea how she portrays her behaviour and reckless acts within our music video and how we could interpret this within our own production. Some examples of inspiration we gained from her is the big backcombed hair and makeup, which is shown throughout the video to show maturity within her age and take away any young traits which can perceive her as innocent. We also gained inspiration from Amy's videos of her drinking a lot of alcohol. This can immediately show her reckless and off the rales behaviour. We took this into account and included the artist drinking from when we wakes up in the morning, to late at night. This can interpret to the audience that she is unstable and in a negative situation at that time, and uses alcohol as an unhealthy form of distraction. We also wanted to make this video relevant towards our chosen genre of soul as much as possible, as we do include things which can be seen as subversive towards the soul culture. We took inspiration from Duffys, music video Warwick Avenue, where there has been adjustment of colour. It has been made quite dull with grey tones. This sets a mood for the audience of how the artist is feeling and we will show this throughout the video to show her mood. We also took inspiration from Amy Winehouses song 'Back to Black.' Again with the colour scheme, it is shown throughout in the editing colour of monochrome. The colours of black and white are effective as they can show a sad or past related situation. There is no brightness, but only dullness within these colours which show a negative situation. We wish to conclude this in the middle towards the end of the storyboards, to show a constant sadness within the video, and that there is no happy ending which the audience can then sympathise for. This will be shown within the date scene.
When constructing our music video. We did mainly stick to the plan of the storyboard. However; we did think outside of the box and decided that when we was filming our music video, we would film more scenes than needed incase a scene we high out would be effective was actually not. This allowed us to be more confident when it came to editing the production. On the other hand, would then slightly change the plan of the storyboard. We would add different scenes into different fractions as we thought it was more suitable and appropriate. For example, planning in the storyboard to use the performance scene for fraction 24, but using he walk of shame scene as it would fit more well with the words, the lip syncing and overall storyline of the narrative and performance. We also shortened the time of the fractions, as we planned to mainly have each fraction around 2-4 seconds. When it came to editing this, we then realised it would be too long and boring for the audience and changed it to around 1-2 seconds per fraction, with the odd 3-4 second scene. We followed the main structure of the storyboard, but invetiable made slight changes which we thought we be most efficient. Following the storyboard shows understanding within the storyline and organising ourselves as a group to uphold our plan and not just do whatever we want.
This post demonstrates some understanding of why storyboards are essential to consider before filming. You have made a start in explaining the reasons behind a storyboard and the ways in which it can impact a production, but you also need to include points on the research that you previously carried out and explain how the research influenced your planning.
ReplyDeleteAim-
1) Include points on the research that you carried out and consider the inspirations that you gained
2) Add a conclusion to explain if you followed your storyboards, or if you made any changes
This post now demonstrates a sound analysis of what storyboard are and the importance that they have to a production. You have considered your inspirations and research well, which enables you to demonstrate further understanding of this post.
