Planning Editing Styles - Miss Georgiou

Editing styles are am essential micro element within a music video as the audience are able to learn more about particular types of scenarios throughout the video. They are able to understand towards what is going on and why it is being used. There are a range of different editing techniques which are used within a music video such as slow/fast editing, coloured filters, straight cut, montage, shot reverse shot, timing of shots, reaction shot, fade, dissolve and jump cut. These all participate within expressing the narrative of the video or learning more about the personality of the artist if it is performance based.
Filters-
We decided to include this within our editing a styles as we thought it would be effective to use within our flashbacks scenes. We are going to use a black and white filter within the flashback scenes of the couple when we was officially together. This will then make it clearer for the audience to understand that this was a past event. This is conventional towards the genre we are specifying in, of soul as it can represent to the audience a sad time. Using gloomy or black and white filters allow the audience to understand that it is a sad time, allows the juxtaposition of how different things are within the present time. This type of editing style helps to represent the artist as very careless, as this will be the period of her boyfriend treating her very nicely and only has eyes for her, and only showing her to look very careless and uninterested. The audience will be able to see her in past events, meaning that they can then learn more about her and her persona, allowing a more deeper level of relationship due to the audience learning more about her. I wanted to include this as it is conventional towards my chosen genre of soul. The audience are able to immediately understand the mood set for that particular scene by just looking at how bright or dull the fraction is. An example of this editing style being used within one of the verses of the lyrics is "yours is a familar face," this is effective as it will show the artist talking about the ex boyfriend whilst having the flashback of one of their dates. This will show that they were once close but no longer are, which enphasises on the black and white filter to show a past related experience.

Blurred (POV)-
This is going to be used to show more about the character. This way, the audience are able to witness how the artist is viewing the scenario, allowing a bond between audience and artist. This will show everyone passed out in a room of the party house, and types of iconography used such as empty alcohol bottles, red cups etc. This is going to be used during the part scenes, to insinuate to the audience that the artist has something in her system which is causing blurred vision, such as drugs and alcohol. This represents the artist as what we are trying to enable such as a very reckless and rebellious character. This is conventional towards the genre of soul as it can show the audience that the artist is going through a very confusing time of their life, which is physically represented by blurred vision. However, the way we trying to convey this editing technique is subversive as we are trying to show her as a very dangerous character such as taking drugs. The stereotypical female artist is usually shown to be sweet and innocent, however, this can be a healthy alternative towards the genre of soul as it shows a different type of perspective which can be seen as interesting. I wanted to use this to show the artist in a confusing part of her life, this is shown by also allowing the audience to witness how she is experiencing the world due to abusing limits of alcohol. Audiences are able to learn more about the artist as the artist is opening them up into 'her world.' This can relate back to the genre of soul as it does not show a happy situation going on, however the situation is differed towards the stereotypical soul narrative but has the same outcome. The artist is left vulnerable and confused, female soul artists usually feel this way after going through something like a break up, and they are not quite sure to handle the situation and all seems very surreal. This can also lead to things like alcoholism which is shown through my artist, causing her to feel constantly dizzy and unorthodox. Lyrics which will suit this editing style is "everything is slowing down," to represent her state of mind physically and lyrically. Showing her blurred mind from the use of alcohol and it is making everything seem like the world has slowed down. This shows what she likes to get up to in her spare time.

Colour grading-
This is going to be used to emphasise a particular, negative time within certain characters life's. This is going to be used subtly within a range of scenes. This will be an effective use of an editing technique as it will allow the audience to understand that this is a serious and upsetting time, due to the gloomy atmosphere. All warm colours will be filtered to highlight the depressing time, for example: reminding the audience of a cold winters day, instead of a happy summers day. This is going to be used when the ex boyfriend is seeing the artist move on without him, and looking very content about it with no regrets.  This is going to be used in scenes such as, at the house party and the artist is flirting and dancing with another boy, whilst the ex boyfriend is watching the whole thing happen. The character of the ex boyfriend will be represented as very hurt, disgusted and upset. The artist (ex girlfriend) will still be shown to be very careless, which will only increase her reputation of an independent woman. This type of independency is very unfamiliar within the genre of soul, as most female artists sing about having their heart broken by someone they loved as they are male centred. This is a healthy alternative towards this genre as it teaches young girls to live for themselves and not someone else and that they do not need a boyfriend to make them happy. This type of editing technique is effective and conventional towards the genre of soul as it interprets a very cold, sad atmosphere and shows physically a type of emotion some characters are experiencing through the music video. This type of emotion is frequently used within soul music videos as artists are usually very upset and depressed and are vulnerable towards telling a sensitive topic towards a wide damage of audiences. I wanted to include this to set a mood for the particular scene. The audience will immediately be able to see how the characters are feeling through the dark colours. It will also rely on weather, as it will be hard to edit dull colours on a sunny day. A gloomy, ready to rain day would be perfect to edit with. This type of editing style is conventional to the genre of soul as it represents a dark and sad time. Most soul songs and music videos are usually about something sad and depressing, and using an effect like this will help to enphasise this mood. Lyrics which suit this editing style are "now it's not hard to understand, why we just speak at night," this shows a dark related time, as the sun has gone down or is about to. Using colour grading shows her night time life and that she is more of a character who likes to go out all night and get drunk and be too hungover to be sociable during the day.

Reaction shot-
We are going to use this in a variety of scenes, this allows the audience to witness how a certain character is reacting to a situation, whether it being positive or negative. This is conventional towards my chosen music genre of soul as these types of music videos usually contain lots of emotion, as they are very confused to what they want, mostly after a break up. This type of editing technique shows the characters vulnerability. Using a reaction shot will help to represent my artist to audiences as it will be used frequently due to her wild ways, showing how her loved ones are being affected by her reckless behaviour. An example of this editing technique being used is in the party scene, where the female artist is flirting with a boy as her ex boyfriend walks in and watches the whole thing. The reaction shot will be shown through the expression of shock, sadness and disappointment on the ex boyfriends face. This is going to be used to highlight her selfish and careless behaviour. This is conventional towards the genre of soul as it shows a reactions from other characters towards the artists reckless ways. This reaction can be shocked of disappointed which is convention l to the genre of soul as it is not a happy or excited expression. Lyrics which will be appropriate for this editing style is "oh, it's you again sorry this isn't a reunion," this can show the ex boyfriend looking shocked or upset at how careless and heartless the artist is towards him, showing him to be in shock at how little she cares over all the memories and experienced they endured.

The target audience are able to create a relationship through the editing styles as they will be able to learn more about the characters and particular where relationships currently stand. They are also able to learn more about the artists life, such as past events, what she enjoys doing etc, the audience are then able to create a bond with her as they can feel like they personally know her, due to the information being presented about her through the music video. They are then able to relate to certain scenarios and can admire her independent persona and idolise how she is living in the moment, which can inspire fans to replicate.

Planning Lighting and Colour - Miss Georgiou

There are a variety of lighting styles and colours used which are essential within a music video in order to make it effective. Using these types of different styles can also show a generic convention towards soul. This can also be an effective way to set a mood for a certain scene. I am using a range of different examples within my planning of a music video which I think would be essential for it to fit well and make an effective piece.

An example of lighting used within my music video is high key lighting. This is going to be involved to set a mood of type of emotions particular character is feeling. This will be conventional towards genre of soul as it is a generic convention for enabling a sad tone for a scene. It can show a deeper meaning towards particular scene, making it even more creative. This is going to ensure that the audience are able to see a clear presentation of a particular scene. This is going to be used within the daytime scenes, to show a clear representation of the particular time of day and why this is. This type of lighting is going to be used during the flashback scenes, to present a day time date the couple are taking part in. This helps to represent the main character of the artist as constantly keeping herself busy, she is shown to always have something to do. This can then lead to a range of interpretations such as she is only organising herself to ensure she is constantly busy as a distraction towards her emotions. She is shown through the video as very careless, reckless and rebellious, however it could potentially be an act towards how she really feels. Maybe she is only behaving in this way as she may feel apprehensive if she were to put her heart on her sleeve and then only get heart broken from it. This would then be an easy way for her to stay happy and not let people take this happiness away from her, still representing her as a strong and independent artist. This type of lighting will also be used during the walk of shame scenes, to represent how early in the morning it is and she is only just coming home from a wild night out. This will show a clear representation of her very much careless behaviour.

The colours of black and white are going to included in through the micro element of editing. This is going to be used to manipulate to use of colour to clearly show the time frame the artist is being portrayed in. These particular colours are going to be used to show a past related story of the couple on a date, where their relationship was much stronger and the ex boyfriends feelings were much stronger. This is conventional towards my chosen genre of soul as these two colours can be seen as very upsetting and depressing, which is the main emotion being portrayed through this particular genre. This then shows that audiences will be able to clearly state which genre this music video is, as me and my group are going into a more alternative and different route towards the genre would stereotypically produce.

Spotlight is also going to be presented through my video. This is going to be used during the performance scene to show all importance of artist towards that particular fraction of the film. Used to effectively show her emotion, props, costume, hair and makeup in a clear and bright view for the audience. This would be conventional towards genre of soul as she will have lots of passion when singing the song, which is normally used within soul type songs to show the audience that it is something they are very desirous about. Also, this type of lighting is conventional towards the look of 60's my group is aiming for, jazz bands stereotypically known for using instruments in the background, artist wearing big hair, off the shoulder dress whilst singing into a standard microphone with the light brightest on them. Shows her body language and facial expressions to be extremely important and luminous effect go her the character which benefits when telling the story to the audience. This type of lighting will also distinctly show the positioning of character, which will be in the centre, to again highlight the artists importance to that particular performance scene.

Strobe lighting is going to be used throughout parts of my music video. This will be at a particular setting of a party to represent the character to be very dangerous and also mysterious. This also shows that the party is very lively and hardcore, which can reflect her type of personality. This is unconventional towards the genre of soul but is convetional towards the personality of the main character. I am hoping to easily portray her to the audience as careless and addicted to her crazy social life, which her boyfriend thoroughly hates and is causing the breakup which she is not too fussed about.

The target audience are easily able to build a relationship with the artist through particular types of lighting and colours analysed as they are able to see the artist in different types of scenarios and how she presents herself and behaves. The audience are then competent towards who the artist is on a deeper level. Learning more about her persona; what she enjoys doing, who she doesn't like and the kind of people she likes the involve herself with. The artist is showing vulnerability when presenting so much of her life and parts of her experiences she has endured, which the audience appreciate as it allows them to feel like they know her on a more personal level, like real life friends. The different types of lighting show her at different time within the day, which range from daytime activities, which mainly rely on natural lighting, to then night motives which are mainly artificial types of lighting.

Lyric Analysis - Miss Georgiou

It is very important to analyse lyrics within a particular music video as it allows the individuals researching the music video to get more of an understanding towards what the song is really about. Reading through lyrics upon the song allows a more clear meaning towards what the artist is trying to convey and portray towards audiences. This demonstrates effective planning techniques as groups are able to then plan where they thought different scenes would be most effective in. This allows individuals to become more organised as there will be less confusion towards what the song is really about or what type of narrative to include which would benefit and fit well with the song itself. Being able to read through lyrics of the song allows producing the video to be less time consuming as your are organising yourselves to who is in charge of what for one particular thing, without an individual taking part in something and then having to change it and then resulting towards a waste of time. Becoming more clear with what to involve within your music video early on within planning, would result to a more effective piece.

I like how originality of our planned music video as it is very different towards stereotypical music videos which participate within the soul genre. It is almost like there is role reversal involved where the female character is portrayed to be a typical male/boyfriend with her type of behaviour and the male character is shown to be madly in love with her, just like the stereotypical teenage girl is perceived to be. This can have a range of hidden meanings for particular types of audiences. The main interpretation towards this music video is that young girls should not feel the need to copy their idols that are involved in musical entertainment just because they are in a rough situation romantically. Nearly all soul music videos are produced by female artists, which are singing about falling in love with a man who does not love her back and does not care towards how much he has upset her. This can teach young women to revolve themselves around men rather than being independent, and that even the prettiest and nicest of female artists will still get their heart broken.

My music video on the other hand is  to show women do not need a man to make you feel happy and complete, and the fact is they need you more than you need them. This is portrayed through my music video of the female artist living her days as it comes, not over thinking, and just doing whatever makes her happy, which is partying and having fun and the man extremely wanting what he cannot have. As young girls highly appreciate and respect the music industry, (especially soul) can then pick up a few ideas and think it is then acceptable for them to be treated in a certain way by a man, highlighting the inequalities gender is conveyed through soul genre music videos. Including an idea like mine and my groups can be highly effective and overall positive as it is motivating audiences to live her their as they wish, and not to wish for someone else. This type of hidden meaning is going to be used all throughout the music video, which will relate towards lyrics to ensure there is a match between lyrics and videos to create a successful music video (example of Dyer's points.) An example of this being used is "I sleep alone the sun comes up," and "so sorry if I turn my head." This represents her to not be the stereotypical, affectionate young girl female soul artists are portrayed to be.

Me and my group have annotated the lyrics in a very effective way. We decided to section mostly every other verse and then categorise them into different scenes which we have planned for the music video. The scenes will switch at an appropriate time to ensure one scene does not get too boring for the audience and that the music video continues to be interesting. The first scene we decided to the use the bedroom fractions as a meaning of waking up and starting up the music video in an effective manner.

There are a range of genre codes and conventions within the music video and lyrics. An example of this is hair and makeup, this is conventional as it representing character as reckless, which is what my group are ultimately aiming for. We are enabling the main character to wear lots of heavy makeup, such as thick and exaggerated winged eyeliner, and very messy, with a back combed half ponytail. This is an effective way of physically representing the characters persona through her looks and also allows the audience to create an immediate bond with the female artist as they are learning more about who she is and what she will get up to during the duration of the music video.
There are going to be a range of examples of cinematography which will be portrayed throughout the music video. One of which will include a close up, this is conventional towards genre of soul as it allows the audience to clearly see the artists emotions in a great level of detail. This will be portrayed in the performance scene where the artist is in her bedroom, like she has just woken up. Using a close up will show her old, messy make up and parts of her ratty, un-brushed hair. This will be a clear representation of her sloppy and again, careless lifestyle. We will also include panning within our music video as she is walking confidentially around her room. This is going to be used when she says "want the same thing where we lay, otherwise mines a different way." The lyrics and visuals link together as the song is talking about two people where they sleep, and that they do not sleep in the same bed together anymore. This is effective with the artist being shown in a bedroom environment, where she sleeps, gets ready for the day etc.

Editing styles will be shown through a diverse range throughout the music video. Some of which will include strobe effects. This will be used in party scene, to represent a hectic, very fun party. We have divided the party scene into lots of different sections, so the audience will be able to get lots of clear understanding in some activities which will be taking place within this particular scenario. An example of the lyrics which will be represented in within the party scene will include "your still clinging to that notion." Showing movement within the lyrics (notion) and physically seeing lots of people dancing about in the video. Another editing style will be changing certain scenes colour to black and white. This is going to be used to show a past related time within the flashbacks of the dates the couples endured before their break up. This is conventional as it relates towards the genre of soul by showing a better time, which juxtaposes a more negative time presently. Showing forms of emotion the ex boyfriend is experiencing, which the audience are able to sympathise for. An example of the audience witnessing this will be in the flashback scenes, which will be presented throughout the video in various forms. "Recognise my every sound, there is nothing new to learn." This is an effective use of showing the female artist expressing her emotions in the form of singing, showing that they are growing apart, and are not entertaining each other in the way a romantic couple stereotypically would. Lyrics and visuals link together as the audience are able to see the artists inner emotions by her physically telling them and her having to deal with a suffocating relationship before it all became too much for her. The audience are able to create a bond with the artist as they are able to experience with the artist almost, things she has gone through which she found to be very negative and overall very unhappy. The audience are also able to see her in a much more positive light, one she has broken up with him. This shows different characters she portrays when in different situations, making the music video effective as the audience are able to see particular personalities she conveys.

There will be a range of evidence of mise-en-scene throughout the music video. Some of which will include the artists body language and facial expression, this will represent her as very confident, to highlight her careless character. This  Juxtaposes a stereotypical break up where the girl is constantly upset, insecure, and not up for going to things like parties. Shows her selfish lifestyle, which can be seen as amusing for audiences, and beneficial when trying to create a relationship between character and fans/audience.

The artist is able to create a strong relationship with the audience due to the audience feeling like they actually know the artist. This is due to them being able to witness particular life events the artist has experienced. This makes the audience feel like they have a real life relationship with the artist, the same bond as audiences would have with their peers and close friends. This gradually develops more and more by the audience learning more about artists persona. The audience are able to see the artist in different chapters in her life, which have positively or negatively impacted her life. This includes break up with her boyfriends, things she likes to do in her free time, such as partying and getting drunk and also the people she likes the hang around with, which can say a lot about what kind of person she is by the people she enjoys hanging around with. These people are going to be represented as very dodgy, such as doing drugs and getting too drunk for their own good. The target audience are mainly teens to young adults (15-25 year olds). This is a relatable type of age as it will be similar towards the age we are trying to represent the female character as. These ages can also be more successful when trying to relate towards particular settings, such as house parties and types of emotions, such as being rejected by someone they really liked. Teenagers are also seen as the time of rebellion, which is mainly what is going to be pursued throughout the music video, which the target audience may be able to see as amusing and entertaining.

After firstly planning the lyrics with my group. We soon after decided of more ideas to include within the music video. The narrative slightly changed by including more scenes within the video to ensure the audience are more aware upon the genre characteristics and what type of character we are trying to convey of the artist. We decided to include a party scene, where both female and male (ex boyfriend) characters are at, showing the female artist to have a careless attitude towards the break up situation. She is going to be surrounded by her friends, maybe flirting with a few boys at the house party, whilst camera shots will also show the boy in the background, watching her and looking very envious and jealous. Another performance scene is also going to be included, to show more use of performance base rather than just all narrative based. She is going to be shown in a 60's setting, almost like a jazz band. This also links with the type of music that the song portrays. She is going to be conveyed as a typical 60's singer, with big back combed hair, nice long dress, exaggerated makeup, use of spotlight upon important character and characters in the background playing the drums, guitar etc.

By annotating our story board allowed me to get a more clear understanding towards the idea of the music video and song. I was able to see which of the different types of scenes fit to which particular line and to also see if it was going to work effective and efficiently. All of the ideas fit well for the storyline and the lyrics of the song. This made it easier to plan and visualise the storyboard and I am more clear towards what I want to be involved within the music video and how it will be included.

Planning Cinematography - Miss Georgiou

Cinematography is different angles/shots used for photography/ type of film, able to portray certain characters in a different light, and able for audiences to see the story behind the music video and song. It is essential within a music video as it is the most crucial way for audience to see the artist performing, seeing the narrative etc. Camera shots can also set a mood for the audience, able to witness a certain scene which would tell an important story within the concept of the music video. For example: close up, can show an artists facial expressions and only that without the audience getting distracted by anything else within the shot.

As you can see from the evidence of the picture, I have included in a variety of detail some examples of camera shots that will be included to make an effective scene and to tell a story to the audience. One of which includes the camera shot of close up. I have decided to include this to ensure there is no distraction for the audience when watching a crucial scene. This is also an effective way to clearly show the characters emotions in great detail. This is also a vulnerable state for the artist, where she is expressing particular emotions towards fans, almost like she knows them, the artist is comfortable to confront her emotions. This is then beneficial as it allows a relationship to start between artist and audience. This is also a conventional characteristic within the genre of soul. This will match the style of the song as the audience will be able to see the artist performing whilst in a close up. This will help to enphasise her famous winged eyeliner, extra heavy makeup and high messy hair. This will represent her as a fearless and careless artist. I wanted to use this particular camera shot as it allows the audience to see the artist in much greater detail, showing her to be more exposed and vulnerable to them. The audience can also feel like the music video is real life due to this camera shot. This is due to particular details this type of cinematography presents, such as small flaws on the face that a mid or long shot may not show. This can show they she is a normal human being, just like the audience, which can then easily create more of a bond as she does not seem so intimidating then. A verse which would suit this camera shot is "oh, its you again." The audience can feel like the artist is having a conversation with them, due to how zoomed in and close this camera shot is. It can feel like a feel like conversation due to how exposed she is looking at the camera specifying in a certain person (you.)

Another shot I am planning to use is panning. This is going to be used whilst she is in the bedroom scene, showing her walking around to the mirror to do fix her messed up makeup. This will represent the importance of the character within the music video, as the camera is following her to see what she is going to do next. This will be the scene when she knocks down a picture of her boyfriend to show that she's not too fussed about him and the lyrics will play "you'll never get my mind right." This is conventional towards the genre of soul as the main characters are usually the most important as the audience are intruiged to see how she will express certain emotions and how they deal with certain negative situations. This type of cinematography will represent the artist as lazy and unmotivated. This will be shown through non smart clothes such as pajamas, old dirty makeup that she hadn't taken off the night before and messy type of hair. I like this type of shot as it shows the audience more of an insight towards the type of scenery the artist is in, they can then get more of a taste towards the life of the artist, and can then create a bond as the type of scenario can be relatable to the audience or the large visuals avaible to the audience can then make it easier for them to feel like they are apart of the situation.

Another camera shot I am planning to use is tracking. This is similar to panning but is mainly going to be used in the walk of shame scenes. This type of camera use is more walking along with her than moving the camera towards the direction the artist is going in. This is conventional toward my genre as it can have a variety of meaning, such as walking into a new perspective of life. However; this is going to be used to once again show the artists careless character. This is also conventional towards the genre of soul. Also, me and my group are thinking to include this when she will be singing the line "a different way from where I'm going." I wanted to use this particular camera shot as the audience can then feel more familar with the portrayal of the artist, such as the way she walks, maybe having her hand on her hip to show her overbold behaviour. The audience can feel like they can easily make a connection with the artist as they are learning more about her overall character rather than just parts.

Low angle is also going to be included within the music video. This is going to be used to show the artist performing with lyrics and visuals. This is effective for style and the genre of the song as it can give the audience an extra perspective upon the artists particular type of emotions. This is going to be a healthy and different alternative as soul music videos are stereotypically known as destroyed amd upset characters having very little camera shots and background scenery going on. An example of a successful music video which fits that stereotypical criteria is by the artist Duffy 'Warwick Avenue." The video shows her to be in a vehicle, performing to the song whilst looking out the window with tears coming down her face. However, I think using his camera angle is more interesting for the audience as it represent the character as dominant and powerful. I particularly like the type of angle due to it showing her dominance. A verse which would suit this camera shot is "wish I could say it breaks my heart," showing her as careless and intimidating. Young girls can be inspired from her independant traits and wish to copy. This is healthy as the artist teaches young girls to live life for themselves and do it how they wish to, that means being in control and in power. Using low angles show she is higher up, kind of like a food chain, she is the most respected yet feared. Young girls are able to live their life without being insecure over a boy who broke their heart. I was inspired to use this from Selena Gomezs song "Good For You," she looks extremely in control and I thought it would be a good representation for the careless, party girl of my artist.

Long and mid shot is going to used throughout the music video. An example of it being evidentially used is going to be during the walk of shame scene. This has been selected to show the background sceneryl whilst also showing the characters facial expressions and body language. This is going to be an effective use of cinematography as the audience will be able to get a better and more clear understanding towards the scenario and what is going on, which allows a bond to form between audience and artist. Using this type of camera shot, will show the character looking like a rather mess and not caring, very much all over place like she is still under the influence a day later. We are also planning to use the ex boyfriend seeing her in such a state and looking rather disappointed. This will enphasise her rebellious behaviour spans either be rude to him and look at him and then not acknowledge him at all. Using this during the walk of shame will include the song lyrics of "everything is slowing down, river of no return." Showing that she is still rather dizzy, and in an outside environment like a pathway which also includes a little pond, this will show a match between lyrics and visuals making it effective.

The target audience can build a relationship with the artist through the use of camera shots in a variety of ways. Certain shots can reveal certain emotions towards the character, which the audience can then sympathise for. This makes a quick relationship as the audience are feeling sorry for the artist and may be able to relate to a certain feeling as they have experienced it for themselves, making it a relatable piece of work. It can also show more of who the character really is, in this case, she is going to be perceived quite negatively as selfish, rude, stuck up etc, which the audience can admire as she is being true to herself and could be able to feel more free after the break up, hence why she is being the biggest party animal and not even caring. This can have a greater interpretation for the audience to find out, such as she was in a darker place being in the relationship that after it was finished, she just felt so releaved and was able to live her life to how she wished. This builds a relationship with the audience as they are able to learn more about her, kind of like a real life friendship.

Planning Artist Image - Miss Georgiou

Artist representation is essential within a music video as the audience are enabled to witness the type of personality and characteristics the artists has. This is effective as they are then able to create a particular relationship with the artist as they are learning more about them like they actually know them, rather than the artist being perceived as a stranger, which can disengage audiences and if the music video has a narrative, would then make it unsuccessful.

Throughout the music video, the main character is going to have a variety of costume/prop changes to show a clear representation towards a different period within the characters life. These settings are going to range from house party type vibe, flashbacks of the artist going on dates with her ex boyfriend, in her room, walking on the street and performing in a pub like place. Costumes, hair and make-up within the different scenes. Most of her costumes are subversive towards the genre of soul, mainly due to her presenting her reckless attitude through the use of clothing trends. However, this shows her originality from other female artists and how she stands out from the crowd. Audiences can admire her alternative nature and respect her for it.

The walk of shame scene will include her being shown to be very un presentable. This is going to be used to represent her wild night before hand and that she is just returning home. This type of iconography used within costume of the artist will not be conventional towards the genre of soul and female artists are usually perceived as innocent and pretty but destroyed inside due to their heart being broken. She will also have a wine bottle in her hand to show her constant addiction towards drinking, even in the early hours of the morning when she's all on her own. This can show to the audience that she is going through something negative and uses the power of alcohol to distract her from real life. All the consumption of alcohol shows why she is so careless, because she can't even think straight due to everything being a constant blur. This is shown in the lyrics "everything is slowing down" due to her being much under the influence. The audience are able to see this is going to be a long term addiction from the lyrics "river of no return." The audience can interpret that she is talking to her ex boyfriend about herself being the river and that he will not ever see her the same again due to her being in such a bad way. This music video is more juxtaposition towards the stereotypical male and female within a relationship. She is shown to be the one in control of the relationship and his heart.

Throughout the whole music video, she is going to have a big quiff and and very heavy makeup on, such as bold winged eyeliner. In some scenes will include more subtle or more dramatic tones of this. These are going to be used to represent her rebellious features and also extraordinary and different persona, which is healthy for change to allow the audience to feel refreshed when watching soul music videos rather than feeling bored watching similar things all the time. Using lots of hair products and amount of makeup take away any innocence which may be perceived. She is going to be shown as very experienced, especially when experimenting with things such as alcohol and drug abuse, showing to the audience that she has been through a lot. This relates back to the soul conventions as the audience are able to sympathise for the artist as she is shown to be taken advantage of, especially with men 'in her bed.' This leaves her to have trust issues for people who do actually care for her and causes her to push them away. She hides the pain through putting on an attitude, ready to party face to distract her from issues within her life.

During the duration for the music video, the artist will be portrayed voyeuristically to show her sexual mannerisms. This is mostly shown in the walk of shame scene where she has a short, tight dress on and the bedroom scene where she is in pajamas. This is conventional towards any genre of music as more audiences are watching the video, which makes it more popular and effective due to the female artist representing herself as a sexual object rather than a person, this makes it seem like she is not normal like everyone else but extraordinary (something every artist aims for.) This is conventional towards the genre of soul as it shows her as vulnerable. She uses the power of her figure and flirtatious attitude to get attention. "Now it's not hard to understand, why we just speak at night." Shows her to speak to her ex boyfriend only at night, showing they both want sexual relations with each robe but cannot handle the actual bonding and getting to know each other during the day.

For the stage performance scene, we have decided to make her look very 60's style, which was inspired from Amy's usual look but just more dramatic and extravagant. This is where she will look most attractive and elegant. For costume she will be wearing an all black off shoulder dress which is at the appropriate length on the leg. She will have heavy, but nice makeup on such as winged (not as bold at the party scenes) with red lipstick. This is conventional towards the music genre of soul as it will show her performing to the camera whilst looking beautiful and professional. This helps to mirror the style the music video in an overall view, of the 60's generation. As you can see they artists also have quiffs I'm their hair, this is an effective way to show the style of the music video as this type of hairstyle can be seen as an old fashioned hairstyle. We will also use a type of editing such as grainy and old to ensure the audience will fully understand this is a representation of the past. This is conventional towards the genre of soul as most female soul artists are shown as attractive, which then make the audience sympathise for them more when their heart has been broken from a low life boy.

The dates will have the least amount of effort put in comparing to other scenes, she is going to be seen as very casual. This is a condradiction because when girls are going out with someone they like on a date, they usually put in effort to make them look the best they can to impress their significant other. She will have a costume on of jeans, pumps, and a nice lace shirt. She will still have a quiff but just not as dramatic, and will also have her signature winged eyeliner. This shows her as careless towards this situation. This can perceive to the audience that all she wants to do is get it over and done with so she can then go out later and be the party girl she normally is. This can also show that she uses her party lifestyle to distract her from normal life, maybe because she is scared to face it. This is conventional towards the genre of soul as even though she pretends to be tough, she is actually a scared little girl who doesn't want to step out of her comfort zone. The audience are able to sympathise for her. She will be shown as careless to stop her from catching feelings and then being heart broken, which is why her guard is so high up. She used her past relations with men to stop her being happily in love. Lyrics which support this within the song are "it's something I know you can't do, separate sex with emotion," she is so use to having things such as one night stands with so,eone who doesn't know or care about her, that it's almost a shock to her when someone actually does. This can causes her to react negatively as that's the only way she knows. Shows her as broken individual.  "want the same thing where we lay, otherwise mines a different way." This shows her to be very independant, wants sex but then nothing after that, this also highlights her wild and reckless party behaviour.

Our target audience, which ranges from 15-25 years are able to build a relationship with the artists as they can get more of an understanding towards the particular type of persona the artist is trying to convey throughout the music video. She is going to be seen as very alternative and different, and that's the kind of creativity many audiences admire and can help to increase her fan base. They are able to see her in all different types of light, such as her looking her best (stage performance scene) and her looking her worst, very rough and unattractive (walk of shame scene.) This type of planning was beneficial for me as I was able to go into more depth towards the type of artist representation I am trying to pursue.

Planning Setting and Iconography - Miss Georgiou

Different types of uses of location and iconography elements are important within a music video to ensure the audience are getting more of an understanding towards the artists character. It is essential to use props in a particular scene to tell a story, these types of elements are effective for narrative storyline of a music video. There are a range of locations and types of iconography me and my group are planning to use for our music video.

A bedroom scene is going to be part of the music video. We have decided to include this as we thought it would be a good way to start the narrative/performance of her waking up. It will represent her as lazy and careless which is the main aim for the music video. This is going to be an essential part of the music video as at the start when we wakes up, she will put down a picture of her boyfriend, which will immediately insinuate towards the audience that their relationship is finished and she is not too fussed about it as she is looking confident, dancing around her room etc. She will be wearing pyjamas, left over makeup from the night before and messy hair, to represent her as an un-neat character. The only limitation is finding a room for this scene. We are thinking to use a group members room as her décor represents what we are trying to pursue for the character, which is black to represent danger and mystery. It is important to have the right type of room decoration and your bedroom is a way to physically express who you are, as it is your living space. Weather will be no problem for this, as all we will need is natural lighting from the window to represent a late morning rise for the unmotivated, party animal character. As a group, we decided to include this within our music video as it is included within our chosen artist's songs, "I'm No Good," which is showing her in a bedroom like scene in her lounge wear/pyjamas. This shows inspiration towards our chosen artist and how we are interpreting particular micro elements she has used which had benefitted her success, within our production. There is not much risk towards this particular scene, as it is indoors in a bedroom with the artist only performing to the camera. There can be a more mild risk of the drink spilling on the electrical equipment, in comparison towards the house party scene. An example of this being used in reference to lyrics will include "want the same thing where we lay, otherwise mines a different way in my bed.." The audience are able to see her singing about her bed whilst being in bed, showing how the lyrics and visuals match (Goodwin's theory) and making the scene seem more intimate as it is showing her bedroom environment.

The house party will be included to represent her reckless behaviour. This is going to be used to show her priorities which are more focused on getting intoxicated than someone else's feelings towards her. During these scenes, there will be lots of hectic things going on to show a lively and manic house party. There will be lots of people very much under the influence all having alcohol, maybe drug use? All will be very close, to represent a wide set of people within one room, loud music and people shouting. There are a few limitations towards this scene, as there are a lot of teenagers going to be involved, it maybe hard to control them so strictly towards how me and my group picture this certain scene to go. Being stereotypical teenagers, they may want to actually get drunk instead of acting out for the purpose of the video. There can be a few health and safety risks, such as drinks spilling over equipment, this will be overcome as there will be no liquid in the cups unless necessary to show alcohol such as vodka being shown in the music video. Weather will not be an issue as it is going to be at night and most likely mainly indoors. We have decided to use this particular scene within our music video to give the audience a taste towards what she does in her free time. The audience are able to witness places she enjoys going to and people she likes to hang around with. This certain location highlights the artists representation, as she is perceived as a 'party animal.' This shows she would rather be under the influence and taking doses of drugs rather than spending time with her loved ones without forgetting all about her silly mistakes in the morning. The particular location of a house party will show her 'live for the moment' attitude, as she is shown to not be worried about her next morning hangover or silly mistakes she will make at the party, such as flirting with lots of boys. The health and safety requirement for this particular scene can be seen as a very dangerous scene. We would have to make sure there is no alcohol on site which can cause actors and extras to become under the influence and then not follow basic instructions. Another risk towards this scene can include liquid damage upon wires and other electrical equipment. This can be highly dangerous as it can result to damage of equipment such as cameras and in extreme cases; electric shocks. To avoid this danger, me and my group will ensure to keep any sort of liquid away from all electrical products before we begin to film. An example of this being used in relation to lyrics includes "there's nothing new to learn.." This shows towards the audience that she has always been the party animal type of character, something the ex boyfriend already knew.

The walk of shame will take part in an outdoors location, preferably on a random, quiet street or alleyway. This is to show her walking home from yet another crazy night out, showing her in last nights clothes, makeup etc. This is used to show her as classless and trashy. But is viewed positively due to her attitude of not caring at all, and laughing it all off, with no regrets as she is having fun. It will show her still drunk, confused of what happened the night before and walking in different directions of the pathway due to her still being intoxicated etc. The limitations towards this is trying to find a very quiet street with little people around, as they could ruin a perfect scene by walking in on it, talking and being immature. This can also be embarrassing for the actress as she is going to be portrayed as the opposite to elegant and classy. This would also ruin the illusion of it being early in the morning and her on her way home hours after she probably should have gone home to bed. The weather can play a big role in this as there could be potential rain, which means we could not use the camera equipment due to the water damage. A way to over come this is to plan a day to shoot this scene and constantly look on weather apps on our phones to see what the weather will be like on that particular day and to see if there are any changes. This particular location is used to show how her actions can leave her in dangerous situations. An alleyway in a sparsely located area can be extremely dangerous for a young girl who are intoxicated and dress very provocatively from the night before. This represents her as being very rebellious as the situations she purposely puts herself in can cause a lot of trouble, as she is portrayed as very vulnerable as she is just trying to get home, which some people can easily take advantage off. The location of a walk of shame scene shows her careless behaviour and poor efforts to look after herself, which is what we are mainly trying to portray throughout the video. Health and safety precautions within this scene will require constantly looking at the weather, as me and my group have planned for cool, mid temperature weather so that audiences are not distracted from watching the storyline and what is actually happening in background scenery. By having a routine of looking at the weather allows us to become more aware towards what kind of climate it is going to be on that particular day and can make us more organised, leading to an effective music video. We are going to do this as English weather is usually unpredictable, and can ruin the dates we have planned to shoot this particular scene, leading to our group being behind schedule. An example of these scene being used when matching to lyrics would involve "everything is slowing down, river of no return.." I thought this would be effective to use with these particular lyrics due to the reference to a natural element of the river, which can be physically shown within the video.

Flashbacks of dates with the ex boyfriend are going to be located in an outdoor area and inside. Showing them walking to their date and sitting indoors whilst chatting, like a cafe. We wanted to choose a rather quiet one and have so far planned to use a coffee cafe in Woodford broadway. During this scene, it will show them on a date and the boy character completely inlove with her, constantly being affectionate, buying her gifts etc. However it will show the artist kind of going with the flow. There will be an argument involved as the boyfriend character sees something that he does not like, such as his girlfriend looking and winking at other men in the cafe and generally not caring about him at all. Some limitations for this scene is finding an accurate boyfriend we are looking for, such as good looking, tall and muscular and would actually want to take part in acting inlove with someone who doesn't want them back. Weather can also play a big part for this scene as it has to show them walking to the destination, holding hands etc. There is also a possibility that we may not be allowed to film in the cafe we are thinking of using, this can be a major step back for us, if we get told we are not allowed on the filming day as we will have to post pone to another day, which may not work for some of our time tables, and will then make us behind schedule. To over come this, we could before hand ask for permission from employees or manager to ensure full security of film during this. This will show organisation and good team work within our group. This particular scene is used to show how her love life use to be, giving the audience a taste of her past life to be able to create more of a bond as they are learning more about her. This is used to show what she use to have, and through it all away due to her reckless behaviour. This particular scene can connote a range of interpretations towards the audience, such as she is only pushing away someone who truly cares and adores for her and she has been heart broken before, causing her to behave very careless because when she does care, she gets heart broken. The same health and safety requirements are taking place with this scene, the same as the walk of shame scene. This is going to be carried out to ensure the weather is not going to be miserable, for example: raining. This can lead to a range of risks, such as the characters slipping over, causing the whole music video to be even more unorganised as we would have to postpone all scenes in order for the characters to have recovery time. An example of this scene being used in relation towards the lyrics is "the only time I hold your hand, is to get the angle right.." The characters can be seen as holding hands which shows a match between lyrics and visuals, linking back towards one of Goodwin's theories.

Performing with band 60's style scenes will take place in the school hall. We are including this within our music video to represent her physical look, of big hair quiff and big eyeliner which is symbolic to the 60's type of trend. This will also be another element of performance rather than just all narrative. Within these scenes will include her performing in the centre of the shot, with background characters playing instruments such as drums and the artist singing the song lyrics into a microphone. Limitations towards this scene is we have to get everything just right to convey a 60's type band, we will need a big spotlight machine, music equipment etc. I think there would be little health and safety risks for this scene and weather would not be a problem as all the filming will be inside. This particular scene has been created to show the performance style upon the music video. This will also show her very attractive, stylish and sophisticated which shows a juxtaposition towards other representations in other scenes. She is going to be portrayed in a different light which is showing her to be sober, well looked after and motivated as she is shown to be promoting some songs in a bar like scene. The audience are able to admire her representation as she is shown to be still wearing particular micro elements of hers, such as winged eyeliner but in an attractive and non scruffy way (such as the bedroom scene.) The audience then want to copy particular trends of hers, to try and look as much like her as possible. This shows a successful artist as audiences wish to look up to her and idolise her. There are a range of health and safety requirements to take into consideration before filming this particular scene. An example of a risk that could potentially take place is the actress falling of the stage due to her big heels. This can lead to extreme results, such as a broken ankle or concussion, resulting to a trip to the hospital. This can be overcome by the artist only wearing the heels when necessary to prevent any damage towards the artist. An example of this being used in relation towards lyrics is "but that don't make your place Sade in my bed, my bed.."

There are a range of types of iconography we are planning to use for our music video.
Iconography for the scene of stage performance is going to be very past like. We are trying to recreate a 60s type of band, to show originality rather than keep it modern. The best image I could find whilst researching was the image above of the girl band, this relates towards the way me and my group visualise this scene to go. The character of the artist will be in the centre of the camera shot, whilst background characters will fade into the dark background but still able to see them and what musical instrument they are playing. She will also be singing into a microphone to clearly represent a band type of scene. Types of iconography which is planned to be used is costume, wearing an off shoulder black dress. This dress will be an effective use of representation of the artist as she will be shown as being respectful and innocent which is a juxtaposition towards how she presented in other scenes. This will be shown as her being tasteful with her clothing, such as the dress being mid length, without it being too short. This scene will be very simplistic with not too much props within the scene to show more attention and less distraction towards the artist and her performance.

For the walk of shame scene, we are planning to use very shameful props in which she will hold to represent her in a negative manner on her walk home. This will include a half empty bottle of wine which she is still finishing the day after. She could also have her heels in her other hand and could walk bare foot home, which represents and highlights her careless and reckless behaviour. This then leaves a range of interpretations towards the audiences towards her night before, such as it being very hectic and manic.

The flashback date scenes will include very cute romantic things, such as the boyfriend bringing her flowers, being very caring etc. This then only highlights in its truest form her negligent behaviour that he is doing all this nice things to 'wow' her and she seems like she couldn't care less. Using this type of attitude is also an effective way to show younger audiences that it is ok to be independent and to teach them that they shouldn't centre their life around their male partners. This is effective as most music videos with female artists in usually base their work around their personal experiences with their boyfriends, either positively and negatively and how it affected them as a person. Types of iconography which will be included within this scene are flowers in the boyfriends hand, this will highlight the caring personality of the boy and how he truly cares for her. This will then also highlight in a more effective manner the artists careless attitude towards someone who is genuinely interested in her and not just wanting to take advantage of her.

The party scenes will include lots of stereotypical teenage party props. Lots of empty bottles and red cups everywhere, people will be doing drugs such as cocaine, and this will represent the type of girl she is and what type of parties she goes to, which can be dangerous. Obviously, the prop of cocaine will not actually be genuine but use things like baking powder. The girls will be wearing very little, provocative clothing, which will endure the male characters to pay attention to them, which then leads to things like a couple walking upstairs to the bedroom, which will be scene in the background of  the artist performing. The props which will be included within this particular scene will be effective towards representing the artists and how she enjoys spending her free time in what particular scenario and what she enjoys doing at these places.

The bedroom scene will include simple things to show she's just woken up. Such as hugging the blanket whilst in bed, performing to the camera. This scene will also hold a crucial part of the music video which is the first time the audience realise that she is not interested in the guy she's seeing. This will be shown through as soon as she get ups, will knock over a picture of his face on, to show she is done and finished with him. She will then quickly skip to show her enthusiasm towards the mirror to fix her hair and put on some makeup. She will be very energetic which will contradict the normal breakup between a girlfriend and boyfriend, where the girl is not very energetic, and would probably just want to stay in bed all day feeling sorry for herself. This shows that this character is not like other girls and has an element of difference about her which is healthy and refreshing for the audience to watch.

As you can see, I have provided a variety of examples in relation towards setting and iconography which me and my group have planned to include within our music video. Planning these sort of things is cutical in order to be organised for the music video. This also is benefitical as a group as a whole are able to visualise how we all intent the music video to play out due to the use of pictures and detail within expanding when and why particular things are used.

Censorship - Miss Miller

Censorship is used for all music videos to hide any explicit content a certain music video maybe present to protect certain a diverse range of audiences. This is important to have for music videos as different audiences are involved in different genres, which can require different attitudes or perspectives towards what is seen as appropriate or inappropriate. Censorship can be used in music videos and songs to help prevent any offence some audiences may experience, including young age, morals, religion or political reasons. This is used to restrict access to all types of musical access. Censorship can be used in music videos, to hide or eliminate certain contents that can be a sensitive topic for certain audiences. They can also be used in music channels, for example: not including songs with overly sexual references throughout the video, with explicit content within the lyrics and performance of the artist, for example: one of the most popular music channels of MTV, with many viewers of all ages, the company has to be cautious towards what they are allowing them to watch, to help protect them.

Censorship is effective as it can protect younger audiences from seeing certain essences which can influence their attitudes upon certain things, for example: a young boy could disrespect young girls around him from watching a music video where the female artist is constantly being objectified sexually. They are a music channel in which take Censorship and watershed very seriously and are constantly cautious in terms of what to include within their music video and what should be censored out or not included at all. This is shown through only previewing certain music videos after 9pm, this reduces the risk of younger audiences feeling uncomfortable by certain elements within the music video, this can range from sexual scenes, violence, drug use, an example of an artist who is seen an inappropriate by many viewers is Rihanna in a variety of her songs. An example of her song is "Pour It Up," which was seen as extremely sexual by a wide range of audiences and promoting elements of the industry of stripping, which is seen as degrading women and objectifying them.

Ofcom is a regulator and competition authority for UK communication industries. This industry regulate TV and radio, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services and the airwaves which wireless devices use. People who watch TV and listen to the radio are protected from any harmful and offensive material. The company 'Ofcom,' is the communications regulator in the UK. They regulate TV, certain radio channels, mobiles, postal services . This company ensure that people in the United Kingdom are protected from things such as scams. Their role within music videos, songs and artists is to protect minors from viewing material which can be inappropriate (such as offensive language) to a certain age group. Their role can be perceived as extremely important to many people around the nation. They have many roles within the music industry, for example: situating offensive language on the radio to decrease controversy from certain audiences feeling offended or disgusted with certain languages that were involved in a song which a friend/family member may like the the style and rhythm of the song and may learn all parts of the song and pick up upon offensive language to use to disrespect people around them.

Many audiences have criticised the artist Rihanna and her song "We Found Love," due to many offensive and uncomfortable scenes which she portrays throughout the video. One of the main examples of inappropriate scenes due to provocative behaviour, with a loose jacket on and nothing underneath throughout the duration of the video, this is clear to see for the audience as their are bright lights which shine upon her. There are also scenes where she is in an open field with her partner and runs whilst taking her top off. This can be seen as influencing young fans to do the same as this artist in order to gain the respect she has by many people, encouraging them to behaving in a certain way and degrade themselves to get a particular type of attention. There are also natural occurrences such as lightning and aggressive fire hazards, this can be seen as scary for particular audiences as it is very dangerous and it doesn't seem to bother her as a character within the music video, showing that she is dangerous and trouble making. This is also shown when she seems to rebel against societies expectations and rules as she is jumping on tables in cafes where people are trying to eat to impress her partner, also when it shows that she is under the influence of taking pills and stealing. This can be extremely upsetting for certain audiences due to the fact that a big part of her fan base is younger girls who look up to her. This can be very upsetting for many parental concerns as she can be seen as affluencing certain individuals to behave like her to be 'as pretty' as her, as well respected and able to 'find love.'

There are a range of opinions towards the artist of Eninem due to the way he expresses anger within his work of songs. There are many companies involved and perspectives towards whether Eninem should be censored or not. This artist does include very aggressive language and violence within his work and some audiences either view this positively as a way of letting out his anger in an effective way which benefits his career and some view it very negatively as many young people look up to him and can then easily pick up upon offensive sayings which can be used against people like their parents in order to gain respect.

There is a wide range of views upon this topic of censorship within songs and music videos. Some opinions have a variety of postive outlooks upon it whilst other have a very negative view. The views differ between ages, culture, family situations etc. The views of censorship in which I will be analysing into further detail are the artist, record label, parents for and against, fans, British music channels and British radio stations.

The particular artist of Eminem has a very negative view upon censoring an artists piece of work for a number of reasons, This artist likes to look at songs in a very creative way, he likes to convey his songs towards fans and audiences towards how he desires. As a lot of the duration of his songs can involve violence and swearing, censoring all of that out looses the full effect it once had. He is not able to express to the audience his true self, the passion within his lyrics would be blurred or changed slightly. This in which only decreases the bond which he would normally be able to build with audiences, as he is informing them upon a particular bad experience he has once had, and is not even able to tell his story with the feeling of distress he feels is essential to include. He feels that fans would not feel influenced to feel the need to participate in this kind of behaviour after listening and watching his work as he has said a number of times in his songs/interviews and more that he does not do everything he says he does in his songs, and that it just allows his work to enphasis the level of anger he has felt before. As an artist, he feels he has the right to express his emotions as he wishes. In regards towards his strong view upon not having censorship upon artists hard work, he feels that it should be the parents role to take control upon what they want their children to watch and what not to watch.

The view of parents for censorship is very strong and demanding. This is due to how their frustration of their children differing in behaviour and this category of opinion believe without censorship, would ruin the position of children. They believe censorship is strongly needed due to the period of time we are living in where media is everything. As growing up you wish to be accepted socially, by copying a global phenoma like Eninem, children are thought to believe that they have to replicate trends and characteristics upon certain artists to be considered 'cool.' Parents believe it is so important to disclose certain things from children until they are at a more mature age where they are able to understand more easily, as they are the generation of the future and their behaviour patterns which is spiralling negatively would only influence next generations so fourth towards what they think is acceptable. By using censorship upon videos allow children to experience their childhood without it being ruined quickly by adult artists wanting to be more unique and 'respected.' Parents believe it would be much appreciated to apply this upon songs to avoid foul and explicit language being used from their innocent children, and disrespecting their elders. Parents should not have to be more strict with their children and restrict them from listening to all types of songs due to inappropriate context. Parents cannot control everything their child does when on the internet, they believe there had to be a more powerful domain such as censorship to help decrease chances of young children witnessing sexual scenes, bad language, gang violence etc when at a young age. Parents believe only positivity would come out of increasing censorship in more music videos and songs as there is a growing rate of uncensored music which is the main reason for growing acceptance of traditionally unacceptable language. Explicit work from artists can teach young children to be more open to explore sexual things from a young age, and objectify women from female artists which portray themselves as sexual objects to gain popularity, which only reflects negatively upon viewers disrespecting their female peers. Eminem should be censored as he is seen as a bad influence, is not respectful to anyone, especially when referring to women(misogynist). He explicitly endorse violence through tone of voice and props. Not much language used, very limited and is mainly rude. In a video, he buries his mother in a metaphorical grave in the train, wishing her well on her journey to hell. This can have a negative effect upon children as they can be more spiteful and disrespectful when in an invetiable disagreement/argument with their mother, as they believe that is how they should act in order to be dominant and powerful. Eminem has also grousomly rapped about killing many people. For example: the song 'Kim,' which mostly shows the artist represented as misogynistic, disgusting, horrifying through his violent and aggressive tone of voice.

Parents who are against censorship believe the type of parenting treatment rather than types of music videos that affect a child. They believe over-protection of a child only leads to them more likely to spiral out of control and make them more deviant. Being strict with children over what artists and music videos they can and can't watch or listen to will most likely only tempt them to do it and maybe even find more raw artists which you didn't even know about. If children do decide to watch more sensitive music videos, can be seen as informative and beneficial, as it can teach them things such as harmful side effects towards alcoholism and substance abuse and how it has affected the artist as a person. Children who are kept away from these educational findings are likely to experience it in their own lifetime, rather than not affecting themselves by watching someone else do it in  no music video. They are able to see it only negatively affects the artists whole life. Parents who are against censorship believe if a certain child is mentally unstable, non censored music videos should not be blamed. Being mentally unstable was not caused by listening to a song without censorship. Forms of media cannot be confounded for how different people behave and the type of culture/place/generation a parent raised their child in.

Views that fans withhold within the topic of censorship is likely to be against for a variety of reasons. Fans that idolise artists such as Enimem want to be able to experience his full length of his songs to be able to witness certain emotions he is feeling without it being censored out. Without it, he would be able to express himself freely towards how he wishes towards audiences. Fans are able to create a stronger bond with the artist as they can feel like they are getting to know him as they are able to learn more about the relationships in his life (romantically, with family etc.) This allows a more personal level of vulnerabilty of the artist, which fans admire and appreciate. Fans tend to be more of the younger age, as they are stereotypically known for looking up to successful elders. Of the teenage years, it is inevitable for the majority of the younger generation to learn more about someone's personal life, Enimen likes to portray his negative experiences which can be looked at as a way of unattracting the
Younger generation to go into violence as he represents a very intense, negative character which can be seen as disturbing. That he is able to share his off the rail stories shows a sense of maturity, showing that he is not like who he use to be, which fans look up to more to be like his present character rather than what he was like in the past, showing a positive outlook to hid work. Using censorship looses the aggression he is trying to persue for the majority of his work for a reason. It starts to loose meaning and not make sense through most verses, as it blurs and stops and starts. This can then bore the audience and can actually be a cause of decreased numbers of fans due to the inconsistantency his work has to portray as some audiences do not enjoy. Fans can believe that you can watch what you desire to watch, as you have your own free will, by doing so; can then allow everyone to be happy with audiences who dislike his work to not associate themselves with it and fans able to experienc the full length of the song/music video without interruptions and allow the artist to tell a story.

Music channels do not have an overall view on the topic of censorship due to it being a company and lots of people having their say and view upon the topic towards what they think is right and wrong. Theirs view is very neutral due to the fact that they do not own the means of production wight he song, but only advertise it in their music channel. Although, they do have to be very careful what they show due to the possibility of decreased amount of viewers due to explicit content. The music channel MTV came up with a way for all types of viewers to be satisified with their viewings which is to only show uncensored music videos after 9pm. This does minimise the chance of young viewers watching inappropriate music, but can still be a opportunity towards the younger generation(watershed.) The channel then has to be cautious towards what they are previewing towards audiences. However, Eninem is a particular artist which has to be censored the majority of the time throughout music channels due to highly inapropate content. An example of this is one of his songs 'Rap Game,' which has verses which state to threaten the White House. Looking at this in a US government perspective, is actually an illegal statement. Some of his songs are not even allowed to be used due to the risk of some lyrics being sensitive towards certain audiences. In 1999, there was a shooting in a High a School where people were injured and died, some of his songs can relate towards this tragedy and can be very uncomfortable and upsetting. He has since tried to 're-sell' some of his banned songs but companies have found some to be utterly homophobic, especially considering he fact that homosexuality is a lot more accepted recently within the music channel genre. This highlights Music Channels are not too strict with the topic of censorship but value it's purpose as it allows hem to play artists such as Eminem but still censors them due to their lack of respect for certain event/personal choices which can upset a variety of viewers.

Record labels have a variet of views upon the topic of censorship, as there tend to be a lot of people involved within different genres etc. For example: some feel that censorship is nesecary for audiences to be protected from explicit content. Most record labels are cautious when creating/producing songs, being careful to not make it too sensitive where audiences can feel uncomfortable or offended whilst listening to the song or watching the music video. Eminem has his own record label called 'Sahdy Records,' which was launched in 1999 by his manager Paul Rosenburg. Since then, this record label has been successful with signing 10 artists. The type of music avaible towards this particular label is not restrictive towards content that artists feel they wish to express. They tend to not require censorship with her music videos due to their opinion that audiences enjoy artists orginality and creativity within their work. Eminem's song 'Lose Yourself,' (which was produced by his record label) won't the first ever Academy award for the best original song within the hip hop genre. This is a prime example that audiences clearly prefer original work than blurred, boring songs which censorship portrays. Censorship does not succeed in originality due to lots of restrictions and less opportunity to produce new material. If censorship companies continue to censors more songs due to their minor sensitivity, it will then disengage more variety of audiences. Record labels take into consideration that people who are very into the musical entertainment argue censorship only makes the product loose it's sense of attachment towards the audience; as it can become confusing and ruin the whole song. However, they are aware they hold a lot of responsibility if they produce a song which can be seen as too raw for its content, and can loose the companies ratings and good reputation.

Different radio stations appeal to different audiences, hence due to different content being presented, censorship plays a big role in this. BBC radio one is censorship friendly as they have many family viewers. Views artists such as Eminem as inappropriate for the younger generation to listen to. This belief is held due to the artist constantly referring to things such as violence, drugs etc (his song 'Kill Me' is about rape). Not using this type of music on this particular radio channel allows more protection for children and less chance of them coming across such grousome activity. Capital Xtra is known for playing mainly the genre of dance and urban type of music. This channel allows censoring to remove certain lyrics from songs such as swearing. This occurs until 9pm, however; afterwards the radio station presents less censoring in the same form of watershed. This is used to attract more older audiences to enjoy music without it being blurred. This is beneficial for the radio station as they are allowing all types of audiences to tune in and not feel disappointed or unsatisifed. Waiting for the more inappropriate to be played in the later evening is a very effective idea, as it decreases the chance of younger children listening to explicit content which is too old for their age group.

The general and main overview upon censorship is that it can affect artists reputation and popularity in many ways, positively and negatively. Censorship can help particular songs become more popular due to more audiences feeling more comfortable listening to the censored song but also enjoying the beat and the rhythm of the song. However; it can also disengage audiences to not listen to the song due to censorship loosing the originality and creativity of the song. My opinion upon censorship is very positive. I believe it is essential for some music videos and songs to censor out certain parts to dispute any inappropriate context that may occur and mess with a child's mind. Children are able to experience their childhood without it being quickly ruined by artists conveying themselves in a negative manner, such as sexually objectified, drug taking, drinking too much alcohol for their bodies own good and more. Within my music video (Amy Winehouse, In My Bed), I do not think censorship is necessary when creating my own music video. I think this because there are no curse words within the video, which would only make it inefficient to blur out particular words which would play a role and be beneficial within the music video. The only slightly inappropriate thing that is going to be conveyed within the music video is using the female character to be perceived as sexually towards the audience. This is going to be subtly conveyed by using costumes such as short dresses and heavy makeup. This is going to be used as it will be effective to grab a more variety of audiences attention and it will also be part of the storyline to make it all add up towards the type of main character we are using. The flesh on show will be mostly tasteful rather than trashy, but will have elements of not an elegant woman to show her 'I don't care' attitude towards life after her break up.
