We have music television channels to be able to have a particular channel purely dedicated towards the presentation of music. These include music videos from artists and bands and are broadcasted through satellite or cable. Music television channels include many fun things to entice the audience the watch their channel, including things like award prizes and showing their song chart of what is most popular at that particular time. These channels also help to advertise songs and their music videos which are included with it, which is another source for audiences to easily gain access to watch these videos.
The target audience for the music channel of MTV consists of 13-21 year olds. This is due to these ages being most interested into new and mainstream music, and this channel helps to keep them up to date. The type of music this channel plays is chart and popular music at that present time. There are a range of artists that are played on this channel, some of which include Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding and Ariana Grande. These particular artists appeal to the target audience as they are young, so similar age to the target audience and are fun and creative. Taylor Swift creates music relating towards boy trouble and also sometimes female independence, these types of songs can relate towards the female target audience and help them get through a particular situation they are involved in a fun, crazy manner with a effective beat. Ariana Grande is a effective example for the channel MTV as she is adored by a wide range of fanatics and many people idolise her due to her beauty in appearance and extremely talented voice. All of the artists make songs to make people feel happy and upbeat, allowing the element of escapism.
At the present day of 16/06/15, there are a wide variety of music playing that very much appeal to the target audience of teenagers. At 14:00, the channel is playing 'One Direction:Official Top 10,' this appeals to teenagers as this boy band are highly desired by many young girls around the world, they are perfect artists to play their top 10 songs to teenagers.
This is highly effective with the target audience as teenagers are known to want to keep up to date with everything and as Rita Ora is idolised by a wide range of female teenagers as she is an attractive singer. As they are able to easily access this music video from the MTV channel and are then able to see any new trends that this idol may present, such as clothing, hairstyle etc.

The Channel of MTV have a range of branding to help advertise it to help to make it a mainstream channel. These range from magazines to also particular websites. There are companies in which all work together that own MTV, these include Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Viva and more.
The logo appeals to the target audience in a range of ways. The font is very graffiti style like to suggest a fun and crazy music channel. In my interpretation, this is to suggest a form of rebellion. This links in with the target audience as they are stereotypically portrayed to be up to not good and constantly causing trouble, this channel can then relate to them and make them want to watch it. The official colour is originally black and white to ensure it is simplistic to watch and not difficult to find or try to watch. The colours were not chosen to be bright and neon as the logo is being constantly shown through all adverts and shows playing all the time, the dull colours help to take away distraction from the audiences when watching a programme on this channel. MTV was chosen to have a bigger size than the actual English words of 'Music Televison' as the target audience ranging from young teenagers to young adults enjoy to simplify words and create their own 'slang' due to this generation being highly active within the social media craze and using shortened words is easier and quicker for them.

Another example of a different music channel is 'Planet Rock.' This type of station is known for broadcasting types of classic rock music. It is very easy to find, viewing nationally through the channels of Digital One, Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat and online. The target audience for this radio station is around 25-54 years old. This is due to the type of music being played is quite violent and aggressive, which younger audiences may find uncomfortable and disturbing. This music channel is not considered to play mainstream music, as most of the artists tend to be older and mainstream music appeals more to the younger generation, so by having younger artists can attract them more. Artists on this channel tend to be older as rock and roll was once considered popular in the 1940's and 1950's. This allows more older people to relate towards the genre of music, instead of the younger generation. This then means that the target audience is appropriate and suitable towards this particular type of music.
The logo to this is an effective and immediate way to attract the particular audience of more deep taste in music. The two main colours are red with white writing to show the channels name. Red is an effective colour tool to use as it indicates danger and death. The audience that listen to types of rock music stereotypically are portrayed to be quite dangerous and different towards mainstream beliefs. Within the logo, there are almost things like scratch marks alongside the writing. This indicates towards the audience, again that you are not safe with can engage certain audience to be interested in finding out more. Also, what this logo interprets towards me is that it is almost a broken logo, which is symbolic as 'rock stars' are stereotypically known to get so into their performance that they smash up their instruments such as guitars, this can foreshadow towards the audience quickly that this is the sort of music played within this channel. The scratches around the edges can also interpret towards the audience that the music that is being played is quite old, heavy rock music, as rock music was most valued in the 40's-50's.
Here is an example of a schedule that the channel 'Planet Rock' has organised to play on the 24/06/15. I think this is an effective use of time and attracting a particular audience. The time of midnight is effective as this type of music is considered a rebellion type of music, playing it late at night increases this type of stereotype of rebelling. Older audiences also normally stay up late as they are mature and are their own responsibility. Younger audiences would not normally be allowed to stay up that late on a week day and listen to such intense, loud music. The picture is also an effective way to attract particular audiences due to the dark heavy make-up, long dark hair and again, dark and fully coloured clothing. This colour interprets a very mysterious and dangerous character which can be attractive or inspiring towards types of audiences listening in to this channel. This particular schedule can also attract different audiences by including the phrase "..rock keeps you company well into the witching hour." The witching hour is the reference to belief that witches are active and types of magic takes place at this time. This can interpret that this radio station is a sense of comfort when doing abstract and interesting things.
CMT is a music channel dedicated towards country music and shows. The target audience towards this music channel is mainly people in agriculture, such as living on farms etc, as they can relate to things such as the accents, behaviour and particular types of humour. I think this due to the channel involving things such as cowboys, which people who live in urban places may not completely understand. This channel is not dedicated towards mainstream music and focuses on country music. Country music involves things like guitars and banjos and using singers that would normally have a very strong southern accent. This will then make the target audience effective as they are able to relate towards the artist and make them have a closer bond as they are living in a rural area, where everyone is close and kind. Whereas, in comparison, in city places; residents are stereotypically seen as stressed, busy and rude to neighbours. The logo is very straight to the point, allowing all audiences to quickly understand the genre of this music channel as it is very blunt. This is shown through the capital font style, and the colour being black. There is no added pictures or different colours.

This music channel is favoured for showing urban, hip/hop and grime type of music. The target audience for this channel is mainly centred towards younger audiences, as the channel involved lots of songs which younger audiences can relate to. In particular, the target audiences range from 14-20 year olds. The songs use particular slang which only younger generations can understand,(this is also used with the title of the channel.) This makes it more relatable to younger audiences and less relatable for older audiences. This then disengages adults to be involved in this genre of music and this type of channel. The logo is extremely effective as it is very straight to the point towards the purpose of this music channel. This is shown through abbreviated titles using black font, very quick and easy to recognise to do its big letters with capitals. By also including a man, who is indicated as young due to its style of clothing, can then immediately appeal to younger audiences to see what the channel includes. By having the person completely coloured red, represents towards the audience that there is an element of danger and mystery which appeals to younger audiences as they are stereotypically known to wish to take risks. Channel AKA is a British satellite TV channel, and is owned by All Around The World Productions. This channel can be viewed by audiences through Sky and channel 385.
This music channel is mainly centred around dance, upbeat music. This channel is mainly targeted at audiences of the younger generation, of 15-25 year olds of both genders, as they are stereotypically known to be more interested in fast, upbeat music. It is important to have a target audience as the channel can then become more relatable towards a particular audience. This channel is favoured for showing fast music to put audiences into a positive mood. This type of channel is suitable to be played at places like parties and clubs. The logo is extremely effective as the way it is presented appeals towards it target audience. The is shown by using bright, neon coloured font to represent immediate fun towards this type of channel. In my opinion, I think the type of logo which is being presented is very much like a typical club font due the bulb brightness which is being presented. The target audience is effective as young people are stereotypically known to listen to fast music, which would then be suitable for them.
It is important to have a target audience towards music channels as the audience can then relate towards it more easily and quickly. The channel can then become more effective as they can completely focus upon that type of generation and involve things which they know the target audience will enjoy and will want to watch on. There are a variety of music channels as people have all different types of taste towards genre of music, so having different channels which can focus on particular genres can then be shown in greater depth. This can attract more audiences to watch the channels as they are aware they can watch the music channel and enjoy without being disrupted by other genres which can off-put them in watching any music channel altogether. From analysing different rages of music channels, I have learnt that there is a lot more processed thought which is put into appealing towards a particular target audience than you would expect, such as using particular colours within the title that can immediately attract their wanted audience.
